It's the new trend. Everyone is doing it. It's a healthy choice. It's good for you.
Alright, alright, this post is starting to sound a little bit too much like a "peer pressure" situation isn't it?
Let's start over.
I started this new thing, after seeing, reading and trying a few people's ideas of them. They are called green shakes, and they are delicious ! (According to me anyway - the Mr. doesn't like to use that exact wording. He simply says "They are alright, but I know they are good for me, so I'll keep drinking them")
I've been reading articles about these green shakes for a while now, if you haven't heard about them before, give it a "google" there is lots of information to be read about them.
Let's get real personal, but just for a second, okay?
About a week and a half ago, my doctor told me that my blood was very low.
I'll spare you the details of my symptoms - It was a long list of "I hope low blood is the only results of these problems"
He placed me on supplements, told me to eat more red meat and veggies.
Don't get me wrong, I like veggies, but one can always use to eat a few more.
Nutella or Veggies?
Nutella > Veggies.
You get the point.
Anyway, long story short :
Green Shakes. Bam. Solution to my low blood, well, at least I hope it helps the situation !
For those of you who are unfamiliar with these green drinks, here are a couple of tips.
* Use green veggies - any you would like !
* Placing half a banana and or some pineapple juice will mask the taste of the veggies.
* Try using 4 or less ingredients (fruits and veggies) per shake - this makes it easier for your body to digest the shake.
* You can use water as a replacement for the pineapple juice - as pineapple juice obviously contains a high sugar count.
* Adding flax seed oil and or chia seeds are a great add as well. I've included an link to articles on these if you would like to read up them. PS - these don't make your hair grow faster, despite what the chia pets do. Remember those?Flax seed oil article
How I make my shakes:
I use whatever veggies I have left in the house, even if they are on the verge of going bad. This is actually saving me a few $$$ as I would have usually just thrown the "almost bad" veggies out.
I typically only use 1 or 2 fruits in my shakes, and a piece of them, as I like the drink to contain more veggies.
Spinach and lettuce are always my number 1 ingredient in the shakes.
Place some water or pineapple juice in your blender.
Add half a banana.
Add your veggies.
Blend.
Drink - Easy Peasy.
Appropriate cups eh ?
They may not look too appealing, but I swear they are great. I could drink 5 in a row I swear. But I guess one a day will have to do.
Give it a try - the results will not disappoint !
Thanks for dropping in - Post ya Friday.
I've been a project maniac lately so I'm excited to share them with you.
Bye.Cya

I'm not sure I could brave that drink LOL I'd probably just leave the veggies out and use the fruits haha..
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I found your blog via the March 2012 Blog Hop :)

Wow, this is so great because I bought a juicer for a project a few months back and never used it (it is still in the box). I am going to try this. I would like to do a juice diet for 30 days and rid my body of all of these sugars and toxins!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post...I will try it!
