When it comes to popular cakes, nothing beats the Black Forest Cake. It not only provides a change from the standard cake, but it also remains incredibly moist thanks to the layers of whipped cream and cherries! So for those who are looking to create a delicious Black Forest Cake masterpiece, but don't have a ton of time or patience, I have put together a simple and easy tutorial for creating a fantastic Black Forest Cake in no time! You will need:
  • 2 Boxes of Devil's Food Cake Mix {prepare according to box instructions}
  • 1 Can Cherry Filling
  • 1 Can of Maraschino Cherries
  • 3 Cups Whipping Cream
  • 1/3 Cup Confectioner's Sugar
  • 1 Bar of Hershey's Milk Chocolate
To begin, prepare your boxed cake mixes. You will need at least 3 layers to complete the Black Forest Cake, so pour them equally into three 9-inch round pans and bake according to box directions. Once out of the oven, remove all 3 layers to a cooling rack. Once cooled completely, level each layer and place bottom layer on cake stand or cake cardboard. You will need to then take the mixing bowl you will use to prepare the whipping cream and place it in the fridge to chilled for at least 30 minutes. Once the bowl is chilled, you need to add 3 cups of whipping cream and 1/3 cup of confectioner's sugar and mix until the whipped cream is firm and spreadable. This needs to be done with a mixer because it will take at least 20 minutes to mix to desired consistency, if not longer. Once the whipped cream is done, it can be placed in a piping bag or Ziploc bag cut at the end to pipe onto the cake layers. You will basically be outlining the top of the layer with the whipping cream to create a barrier and then you will take the cherry filling and put equal amounts in the middle of 2 layers. Then place the top layer on and frost the cake completely with the whipping cream. Grate the Hershey's Bar and cover the whipped cream with it. Finally, use any left over whipped cream to set the Maraschino Cherries in place on top. You can obviously decorate the cake differently to fit your preference or occasion. Enjoy!
