Upcycled wreath

Phew - it's good to almost be back to routine.
Last week was a bit of a right off.
I'm not complaining but, it was one of those "nothing went right" type of weeks.
Every project I attempted failed, and because of my many attempts, my housework got placed on the back burner.
This all snowballed and when I woke up this morning I thought, "When the beep did a mess tornado hit the inside of our home ?"
Not only did I have a messy house, failed projects, and an abundance of laundry and dishes, I also seemed to have given myself a little gym injury.
Don't worry it only resulted in me not being able to straighten my right arm.
Looks a bit funny when I walk.
Oh well.
Moving on.
"I will not fail at projects, I will not fail at projects. I will catch up on laundry"

Today I will show you a little quick upcycled project I finished this morning !

Alright so, technically I made this wreath last week, using pipe insulation as the base, which formed the circle.
BUT - this is what it looked like after having hung on my door for 24 hours.

A big fat FAIL.
I really wasn't lying was I ?

Turns out the pipe insulation wasn't solid enough to put up with mother natures mood swings.
Bent could be one word to describe it.

Dear pipe insulation - we are no longer business partners.
Bring on the thrift store already made wreaths.

I ripped apart the first one I made and used the same material.

The material used was found in a "scrap bin" at our local fabric store for 50 cents.
Seriously, check those bins out - I always find the best deals !

I cut the material in stripes and wrapped it around my wreath, covering the wood.

I then made a few accessories for the wreath with other scraps I had lying in my craft bins.

The bird came in a pack of 2 for a dollar and the letter P was part of a wooden alphabet pack for 1 dollar !

The whole project cost me a total of : 5 dollars - and this was counting my "failed first attempted"
 Can't beat that !

Thanks for stopping in today ! Post ya Wednesday !

Mini morning workout

Happy mid week !

I'm calling this week my project fail week - because I've literally failed at all of them.
It's the worse when this happens, you spend all these hours on projects for your home only to have them turn out nothing like you expected.

So, I've decided, I'm taking the rest of this week OFF home projects, despite all the rain we have been getting, I'll find something else to do with the time.
Laundry ?
Oh it can wait can't it?

With that being said today's post will NOT be about my latest DIY, instead I've put together a little mini morning quick easy workout to share !

Since I've received a few emails asking about fitness posts and seen quite a few of these "picture workouts" on Pinterest I thought it would be fun to put together a little one of my own based on a few exercises I do every morning on an empty stomach.

It's fun, fast and it will make you sweat !
A 20 minute workout.
Now you can't say you don't have time for that.
I even do it in the bathroom while C.A.P is taking his morning bath.
No excuses  !
Note : I do this every morning and also aim for the gym 4 times a week in the evenings.
(Aim key word)

Please take note this picture was taken while I was training for a fitness competition, therefor I was placed on a very intense low calorie diet.
Abs are made in the kitchen - Most truthful sentence I've ever heard.

HERE you can read my guest post over on Kim's page -  Random Tips on Healthy Eating

That's it for today's post - I'm off to find some inspiration for next week's projects while C.A.P naps.

Thanks for stopping in - I appreciate it as always !

Girls Night In *

A few months ago I attended an business promotional event at one of our local hotel. There was a variety of different businesses offering all kinds of services.
One in particular immediately drew my attention -  "At home Spa"
Basically, the spa came to you, in your house, for cheap.
You just got excited right ?
I mean, what girl wouldn't get butterflies at the thought of being pamper?
Did I mention it was cheap?

Anyway, all you (as a host) had to do was gather some girlfriends, provide a few snacks and they cover the rest.
This got me thinking.
Girls night in.
Peachy perfect. I was 100 percent hosting one of these night. Like, asap.
So, right there, that afternoon, without event talking to a single girlfriend of mine - I booked a party with the Spa girls.
Long story short, I got home from the event, started brain storming and came up with the perfect night.
Spa treatments. Jewelry party. XSense Home party.
All.in.one.night.
(For those of you who aren't familiar with XSense Home parties - it's one of those massage oil, bath products and well,  other adult only things parties)
I found the other services, verified the dates and then emailed a ton of girls.
"Girls Night In" was penciled in my calendar and I was beyond excited.

Here are some pictures from out night :
Warning - I went picture crazy !

The beginning of my snacks table !

Rolled doilies filled with popcorn and cheesies for the Fantasia "show snacks"

Spray paint, cooler bottles, thrift store frames, mason jars and a little ribbon make the best home made party decor.

Shot glasses make for the perfect individual candy dish for the guests !

Grey, yellow, white and black - My new favorite colour combos !
Seriously - can I change my whole house colours ?

The treats !

Greek salad on a stick anyone ?

Our entryway was transformed into a spa !

2 Pedicure stations
1 Manicure station
1 Massage room upstairs (C.A.P had a sleep over at older DM's and Mama  the Spa Girls transformed his room into a spa for relaxation massages - no pictures, but you get the point - it was fantastic !)

The jewelry station ! Lots of goodies bought here !

Show time !

22 pretty ladies.
Food and punch.
And lots of goodies and spa treatments.
How can a girls night get better ?

It was a hit !

I've decided to make it an annual event and I'm already excited for next year !

Thanks for stopping in today !

No fail ribs.

"I'm making ribs for supper"

The sound of that makes me shiver.
Not because I don't like ribs (Seriously I could possibly be their BIGGEST fan) but because they can either go really bad or really well. And, well, in my case - they were normally really bad.

"Maybe you should try a different recipe next time." Was my Mr.'s reaction the first time I made ribs.

No more people. NO more.

I have finally found a way to make and enjoy ribs at home !
Tiny lie - I may have gotten this recipe from my step-grandmother.
So okay...she has finally found a way for me to make and enjoy ribs at home !
God love her.
Her recipe books are almost my favourite part of the visit.

So, let's get straight to it !
No pictures today unfortunately - we ate them too fast - this is NOT a bad thing remember !

What you need :

Rib racks (I cut mine up small so that they fit nicely in a pot)
1) 1 cup of honey
2) 1 cup of soya sauce
3) 2 cups of water
4) 1 cup of ketchup
5) Onions and garlic (amount desired - I usually chop up a Spanish onion and use just over a teaspoon of       crushed garlic)
6) BBQ sauce of your choice ( My favorite is of course the chicken and rib flavor)

What you do :

In a stove pot boil your ribs with the first 5 ingredients for 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat your oven at 350.
When this is complete, transfer your ribs (without sauce) into a different oven ready pot.
Coat them in BBQ sauce
Then add a bit of your sauce left in first stove pot. (Not the whole thing)

Cook for 30 to 40 minutes depending on your stove settings.

*Half way through cooking the ribs take them out and add some more of your remains sauce to make sure they stay juicy !

Voila ! You are done - How simple right ?

Finally - a simple and taste fall of the bone rib recipe !
Hope you try this one out for supper this week !

Thanks for stopping in today - Post ya tomorrow.

Fun with Frames

As promised, today I will show you what I did on the wall going up my stairs.
Now - my apologies in advance as the pictures could have been better, but let me tell you, taking stair pictures at this angle for a non photographer does happen to be a bit of a challenge...that I obviously did not ace.

Regardless, here it is - my wall of framed objects !

I had some extra frames laying around from our previous home and knew I wanted to put them to great use, plus the wall behind the stairs was just screaming "Dress me up now woman!".

Well as you can see in the pictures below our stairs are stained wood, black and white, so I thought painting every frame black would be best.

Instead of using pictures in my frames I opted for objects instead.
Partially because at the top of the stairs I have a full wall of frames pictures but also partially because, well, it involves me making a trip to a thrift store.
We all know how I feel about those.

Some of the goodies I found :

From there I spray painted my objects a rusty wood colour to match the stairs and hung them in the black frames.
Oops, I mean my Mr. hung them.
He does tend to mention when I fail to give him credit, rightfully so; however, I do secretly think he wants his own blog.
I told him I would share but Tales of a Domestic Mr. just doesn't have the same ring eh ?

Anyway here it is :
Again apologies for the pictures !

That's that !
Another project to check off my long list.
Keeps a mama busy and I love busy !

Thanks for stopping in today

I'm allowed a birthday post right ?

This morning I woke up stiff and sore, perhaps it's my body's way of welcoming me to my 27th year of life ! Or...it could be because the Mr., C.A.P and I went on a 2 hour 4 wheeling trip last evening.
 So. Much. Fun.

Alright, instead of showing you a new DIY today, I decided to share half of my birth DAY activities with you. I'm allowed right ?
Doesn't anything go on your day of birth ?
No house cleaning count as well ?
What about the day before and after your birthday ?
Can I make this a week long event ?

Surprise, surprise - I started my day off with a list.
Yesterday I received a little b-day present in the mail from a good friend. It was filled with little yummy and thoughtful things, this homemade book was one of them !
She knows me too well...thanks kdash I needed a new list book !
Isn't it cute? Gotta love those paper cutters.

My intentions were to bring C.A.P to the zoo today; however the weather changed my mind.
Next best thing - errands & shopping !

But first, my favourite - Iced coffee.
I even made it a large today. Go big or go home.
A little large treat from me to me - Delicious.

From there C.A.P and I did a quick lunch date with the Mr. I must say, I do love those.
OH. MY.
This reminds me - I pulled out the patterned leggings for the big day !
Everyone should own a pair of these, I don't care how ridiculous you think you look.
They rock my socks.

My new purchase - Kardashian shoes.
They aren't actually designed by the K's but they wear similar (not in price...) ones all the time.
I would consider paying those girls to be friends with me, and I'm not lying.
Did I mention they were on sale for 15 bucks.
Birthday gift from Zellers - I'm blushing !

How could you not love to spend every day with this little man.
He's a stud and a half.
I made him myself.

Finally, C.A.P and I watched "Tangled" before his nap time.
Can we all just have a moment for this Disney movie, it is freakin' fabulous.
Funny, cute, and great characters. Seriously, I laughed out loud throughout the whole thing.

Side note : why can't I can't I look like Rapunzel ?

So there you have it - half of my birthday has come and gone.
What shall I do this evening ?
Is that another grey hair ?

Thanks for stopping in today - come back from a visit on Friday and I'll show you what I did on the wall going up my stairs !
